Pashupatinath Temple (पशुपतिनाथ मन्दिर) is one of the important Hindu temple in the world. It is located in the heart of the Kathmandu city. It is enlisted by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site.
The oldest claim says this temple was built by Supuspa Deva, who was born before 39 generations of King Manadeva (464-505 AD). This gives the approximate establishment date of the temple as 300 B.C. Since then several hundreds of kings and dynasties ruled central Nepal and the Kathmandu valley. There are now several other temples made by different kings on different time around the main Pashupatinath temple.
Mahashivaratri, which falls around Feb or March, is the main festival day when around 1 million devotees visit the temple. Every Mondays especially Mondays on Shrawan Month of Hindu calendar, Teej Day (the third day after the Amavasya of Shrawan month) and Bala Chaturdashi are other important days for the temple.
