List of Rivers and Khola in Nepal

This is the list of all river systems, rivers and kholas in Nepal. In NepEnglish the term River(Nadi) is used for big rivers originated in Himalayas whereas Khola is used for small rivers. Nepal has three major river systems and several other smaller rivers. All of the rivers in Nepal ultimately drains into Ganges in India which ultimately drains in Indian Ocean in Bangladesh. The given co-ordinates provide approximate key location of the rivers and can be searched using Google maps.

Sapta Kosi System (exits Nepal @ 26.49, 86.91)

Main tributary rivers :  Tamor, Arun & Sunkoshi (@26.91, 87.16)

Tributary Sun Koshi:  Dudh Koshi(@27.15, 86.43), Likhu (@27.25, 86.20), Tamakoshi (@27.35, 85.98) , Bhote Koshi (27.73, 85.78) and Indrawati (@27.64, 85.71)

Tributary of Arun: Barun river (@27.69, 87.36)


Sapta Gandaki/Narayani System

Left: Trishuli, Budhi Gandaki River, Marshyangdi, Seti Gandaki, Madi River.

Trisuli: Trisuli originates in Tibet where it is called  Kirong Tsangpo. It enters Nepal near Rasua Gadhi international border. Langtang River meets Trisuli (@28.16, 85.35).  Before that Chilime Khola meets Trisuli at Syapru Besi (@28.18, 85.34).

Budhi Gandaki: This river serves as the border between Gorkha and Dhading Districts. Buri Gandaki meets Trisuli (@27.82, 84.78).

Marshyangdi : Daraudi River meets Marshyangdi (@27.91, 84.55) and River (@27.956, 84.422). Chepe meets Marshyangdi @(28.06, 84.48). Paudi Khola, a small stream meets Marsyangdi (@28.11, 84.43) and above that Dardi River meet Marshyangdi (@28.17, 84.45).

Seti: Seti Gandaki originates near Machhapuchchre mountain range. It flows through Pokhara and meets Trisuli-Marshyangdi River (@27.82, 84.45) before merging with Kali Gandaki.

Madi River originating near Annapurna II merges with Seti near Damauli (@27.97, 84.27). Tributary of Madi are Risti khola (@28.08, 84.24) and (@28.15, 84.22).

Karnali System

Left Bheri

Bheri River originates in Dhaulagiri Mountain range. It meets Karnali at Surkhet (@28.74, 81.26).

Right Karnali, Seti, Humla Karnali, Mugu Karnali

Karnali River serves as the eastern border of State-7 districts like Kailali, Doti and Achham.

Humla Karnali & Mugu Karnali meets (@29.62, 81.85) to form main Karnali River.

Seti Meets Karnali at (@28.97, 81.10).

Karnali river flows to India as Ghaghara River which ultimately merges to Ganga.

West Rapti River 
This rivers mainly flows in State no 5 of Nepal. This river does not meet Karnali in Nepal, it flows through Gorakhpur, UP and merge into Ghagra River at (@26.29, 83.67).
